Dr. Navneet Kaur Bal – Dental Practitioner

Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Hospital, Amritsar, (Punjab) India.

Cleft lip and palate is the most common congenital facial anomaly in children, which can affect the appearance, speech, hearing, growth, psychosocial wellbeing and social integration. Patients with these deformities require coordinated care involving multiple disciplines from birth throughout adulthood. The emotional issues of the patients with these deformities and their families are significant and include disrupted parent and child bonding, body image disturbances and impaired socialization. This problem is increased ten fold when the patient has never been treated till the time he/she achieves adulthood. Such patients can only be the seen in developing countries and rehabilitation of these patients is way different compared to the treatment of young cleft lip and palate patients. This review paper attempts to make the clinician /dental surgeon aware of the complete rehabilitation of adult cleft lip and palate patients.
